Invisalign Treatment Guidelines

Invisalign is easy to use, but patients must follow specific guidelines for treatment to be successful.

Invisalign is easy to use, but patients must follow specific guidelines for treatment to be successful.

  1.  The aligners used with Invisalign are easily removed. This allows you to eat your normal foods without restrictions. You can also brush and floss your teeth for proper dental health care. At the same time, you should clean your aligners, either with a special kit or by simply brushing them and rinsing with lukewarm water.
  2. Invisalign aligners should be removed when participating in sports that require a mouthguard. Although they look similar to a mouthguard, this is not their purpose. After the sporting activity is concluded, you can put your aligner back in.
  3. While Invisalign is removable, for the system to be effective, you must wear the aligners for 20 to 22 hours every day. Failing to comply with this requirement can delay your treatment progress.
  4. You receive a new set of aligners approximately every two weeks. These should be used in place of the previous set of aligners. Save the previous set, however, in the event that you lose your current set. That way, you will have a similar aligner ready to use until you receive a replacement.
