After Propel

What to Do After You Get Propel Treatment

  1. Rinse three times a day with hydrogen peroxide. Do not dilute the recommended solution.  The oxygen bubbles disinfect the mouth and promote healing in the desired areas.  Because hydrogen peroxide tastes bad to most patients, use a tongue scraper after the rinse followed by tooth brushing with toothpaste or use a flavored mouthwash.
  2. Avoid taking pain pills that reduce inflammation, such as aspirin, Alleve, and Ibuprofen.  These medications are counter-productive!  Remember, the inflammatory response created by Propel promotes vascularization, healing, and faster tooth movement. Reducing the inflammation with medications prevents the procedure from working properly.
  3. A moderate amount of discomfort is to be expected. This is temporary. The soreness will dissipate significantly within two days.
  4. Avoid hot, spicy foods and condiments like Tabasco. Citric acids will also burn or sting the healing areas.
  5. If you use Invisalign, continue to wear your aligners as directed by the Sacramento Dentistry Group.
